I served as the principal UI designer for both the web app and the website for Qdoba. The mission was to feature an extensive, detailed menu that allowed users to build customized orders. The system was designed to route each order to the user’s selected local store. Once a user account was created, every order earned rewards that could be redeemed for special items and food.
The primary concept behind the design was to evoke the feeling of an outdoor family gathering around a picnic table. This was effectively conveyed through the use of colors, graphics, and wood textures. On the landing page of both the web app and website, a picnic table element can be scrolled horizontally by the user to reveal menu items in their full presentation states.
Much of the UX planning of this web app and site happening with the team on daily whiteboard exercises. Here are a couple example that aloud the team to quickly come together and discuss ideas in very agile Lo-Fi manner.
The aesthetic elements for this project aimed to capture the feeling of a joyful outdoor picnic with family and friends. The colors were intentionally varied to create visual interest while still belonging to a cohesive color family. These colors, along with the primary brand orange, were the final values approved by the client.
Similarly, the font selections included three distinct typefaces. These were carefully chosen to complement one another but still retain their own individual details, creating a varied but relaxed and harmonious tone that reflected the easygoing nature of a picnic setting.
